I gave up. When I bought a new couch I took several fabric samples home and abused them by rubbing them on each animal. Then I picked the fabric that held the least amount of hair, and that matched the hair that did stick the best! Fortunately it was a nice "camel" color that blended in with the rest of my furniture just fine. I'm not sure what kind of fabric this is, but it's slightly fuzzy (not vinyl or leather) so it's comfy and I can just brush the fur off of it with my hands. VERY happy with my new couch! (We had leather but had to get rid of it - cat claws are not good with leather! And I don't like leather/vinyl couches - they don't seem cozy to me.)
