My husband's sicilian family makes sfincione. That sounds like that thick dough (like pizza crust), thick sauce, breadcrumb/romano cheese mixture on top. They also put little pieces of anchovy into the dough.
That sounds like what dh's family called finjuna. Maybe his family 'Americanized' the spelling. . . but I bet it's the same thing!
