I think it would be difficult because thread is put on cones in a cross wind manner. Any attempt to put it on is going to slip up the taper on the cone.
If your thread is not feeding if a spool correctly to your machine, try putting it loose in a cup beside the machine and add another thread guide. A paper clip taped to the machine will work for a thread guide.
