Color catcher by Shout and cold water. I don't prewash precuts but most of my quilts are small and don't plan on washing them. Personally would never soak anything in hot water.
Mine go to people that have kids - I assume that they will not have Color Catchers on hand - and that they might get washed by someone that has no clue about "the proper way" to care for a quilt. Or baby just peed, pooped, or puked on it and the caretaker just wants to toss it in the machine and get it clean.
Different criteria for different purposes, eh?
