My first memory of a quilt was about the age of 8. My mom and aunt were sitting at this big box of wads of wool. They sat with these paddle-looking things with lots of needles attached to one of the flat sides. They said that they were combing the wool for ladies to make new quilts for our new house which was being built. My sister and I took turns combing the wool. The next thing I remember was going the house of the women who had made the quilts. Both were whole-cloth and hand quilted in beautiful designs. I have no idea what happened to the quilts, but I remember sleeping under the pretty blue plaid. The other was solid pink polished cotton.
