We always had quilts on our beds when I was growing up. My paternal grandmother did crazy quilts on a treadle machine. Like others stated we did not have any heat upstairs in the bedrooms so I always had two-three quilts covering me. You didn't move once they were over top of you. Maybe that's why I still stay in the same position when I sleep to this day!!! I really don't know what my mom did with all those quilts after I left home. Sure wish I had one of those. Grandma did make my son a corduroy quilt when he was little and he still has it. My maternal grandmother didn't quilt as I recollect but she did tat and I have some of those pieces which I cherish. Thanks Leesa for bringing back some of those great memories.
