#2 would be to check to see if all parts are there. I'd check with seller to see if shuttle is present. This is usually difficult since they have no clue what your talking about. A knowledgeable seller will include pic of shuttle. According to description the hand crank is stiff and / or bent which may or may not be anything.

Worth mentioning is an old black Singer with a motor boss can have a new reproduction crank mounted on it. Many advantages over tho old German handcranks but not nearly as elegant.
