Two great finds
Saw a couple lovely hand-crank machines on shopgoodwill.com http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions...-21936160.html http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions...-21957075.html Alas I don't have the time or funds for them, but thought you lovely people would like to know about them.

I'm really interested in the husqvarna; would someone please tell me what questions I need to ask about this machine. Also, are part readly available for it. This would be my first purchase of a vintage machine.

Hi June,
First thing I'd want to know what are the chances of receiving this machine without it being all busted up in the mail. Wouldn't even consider it unless store has proven it knows how to ship a sewing machine safely. Most are not able to do so especially with a wood case involved. Unfortunately I do not know which Goodwills are good and which ones to avoid.
I'd take my chances on a cheap machine but this one will probably go pretty high.

I kind of thought that too, but not knowing about these vintage machine I thought I'd ask. The one in Sacramento CA I could drive to and pick up, so I'll ask the same question. What questions do I need to ask about this machine. Also, are parts readly available for it.
Thanks Everyone

#2 would be to check to see if all parts are there. I'd check with seller to see if shuttle is present. This is usually difficult since they have no clue what your talking about. A knowledgeable seller will include pic of shuttle. According to description the hand crank is stiff and / or bent which may or may not be anything.
#3 if still interested research the machine which I believe is made by Haid & Neu and is a Model 1H:

Worth mentioning is an old black Singer with a motor boss can have a new reproduction crank mounted on it. Many advantages over tho old German handcranks but not nearly as elegant.
