Since so many receipts are printed on thermal paper, I also make a copy of it an try to keep it away from any heat like a window. With smart phones you can also take a photo of the product and the receipt. I put it in my monthly QT (Quilt tools) purchases.

When buying yarn in multiples or anything in multiples always tape the receipt to one item. Make sure it is the last one to be used. That way an unused item can be returned.
