If you look at the Roxanne's basting glue tip, it's metal. I have been using glue with metal tops for furniture refinishing and have never had a problem. Regarding the 2 year shelf life, that is after it's opened and it still may be O K, but if you are doing furniture and want to be sure it will hold, you use new glue. I have used some Elmer's glue that was over 2 years old and it still worked on fabric, but I have also seen glue go almost to water with age. Google shelf life of glue and see what the experts say.
