I have a 6 year old Brother SQ9000 from Wal-Mart and have never had a problem with it. I also bought a Brother 1034D serger from Amazon and I've never had any problems with it either. I never buy the extended warranty on anything. I've not heard good things about extended warranties but that's not to say there aren't some good ones out there.
