Have you ever been inspired to use a color combo in a quilt after seeing your scraps or other fabric randomly lying around or stacked next to each other? This happened to me a few years ago.....an unlikely combination of turkey reds, cream, shades of olive....beautiful together! It began with a floral, a stripe and a star fabric. I continued to "gather" other fabrics from my stash that fit in, but so far have only enough for probably a 50 - 60" square finished. With a little fun shopping, I should be able to nicely add to the mix. Would like to hear any similar stories. ;-)
I most definitely have. I often lay fabrics that I'm thinking of using folded on the end of one of my sewing room tables for a few weeks before starting on the project. I can look at them and add or subtract fabrics at will. Sometimes I'll toss a fabric on the table randomly and decided it might work so I include it in the grouping. I've also used the stand on the table and drop fabric from my stash boxes on shelves on the wall down and see what happens. I've gotten some unusual combinations that way. Things that I never would have put together but really work. Besides, it's fun!
