I would reverse the placement of the borders. Ex: a 1 1/2 " deep color from the blocks for the inner border, then a 4" border of the dark cream. With the inner border of a deep color, it will make your blocks' colors to pop and the outer border of cream will tie all the colors together. Binding could be of another color from the blocks.
You are a brave person to tackle circles. I am going to try them one of these days.
