I checked the local craigslist and they were running that high. I paid $300 several years ago, but that included the card table made for the featherweight (which was not in great shape, but I had the top surface replaced). The seller was a man who had just inherited his grandmother's featherweight, and he wanted to keep it for the sentimental value, so he sold the one he already had. You can get bargains, of course, or find one that is in bad shape or missing parts, but most people who know what they are selling seem to be asking in the $400 range or even much higher. I look at it this way - I have my featherweight, would I sell it for $200? Absolutely not! Well, that may not be a fair comparison, because I do love to sew on mine, but even if I had multiples I don't think I would want to sell them cheaply.

The 99 is a fine sewing machine, but very heavy so it really doesn't take the place of the featherweight.
