I don't save anything less than 12" square. I only piece scraps that are at least 12"-18" wide and a yard long for quilts however. The smaller pieces I save for smaller non-quilt projects like you. My preference is not to have more than 4 pieces of batting sewn together for a quilt. Sewing batting together is a chore that I dread!
