I bought a package of Steady Betty strips for $2 or $3. The strips are pre-cut into 1/4" pieces. I cut one strip into squares and tacked them in strategic places on my rulers and templates.
If you still want the product mentioned on F&P, I did a brief Google search and found both temporary adhesive spray and sticky-backed sandpaper dots mentioned, both of which you should be able to find at a hardware store.
