Depending on the size of the quilt, if it's larger/heavier, it is pulling down/weighing down when going thru the feed dogs.
I pin a bit, and when sewing, I add a bit of tension on the back of the machine by pulling slightly. I also make sure the quilt is in my lap, not on the floor between my feet. I don't have a walking foot, never have.
