When I sew a border that I've layered and pinned, I end up pulling my pins and redoing as I'm sewing because the top is not feeding perfectly with the bottom. So it seems to not be pulling the top piece as quickly and it's bunching up. What am I doing wrong? My tension is set high, 5-6, but my Janome 6300 will only sew correctly at high tension. Thanks in advance for any advice!

walking foot will help a great deal. do you have one? were your borders measured to fit well? usually you put the fabric on the bottom when sewing if it needs to be fit better. but i prefer borders on top. not sure why your tension needs to be high. pin, pin, and pin more.

Have you tried lightening up the presser foot pressure? Also, make sure the feed dogs are clean and operating freely. Do you have the ability to raise the feed dogs a bit?

As an aside - if you tighten your bobbin tension, you should be able to loosen your upper tension.

Closer pinning definitely helps. I feel like a dummy. That's what happens when I take the summer off - lazy pinning lol. And i did raise the presser foot but I'll try raising a little more. had the machine cleaned in July and told them about the high tension. They didn't think it was an issue but I'm going to call the dealer. They are 2 hours away but it's probably worth the trip. Thanks!!

Lately I've been Elmer's glue-ing borders after measuring to fit correctly, no pokey pins and the sewing goes smoothly.

Elmer's School Glue + walking foot should solve the problem.

Depending on the size of the quilt, if it's larger/heavier, it is pulling down/weighing down when going thru the feed dogs.

I pin a bit, and when sewing, I add a bit of tension on the back of the machine by pulling slightly. I also make sure the quilt is in my lap, not on the floor between my feet. I don't have a walking foot, never have.

It will help if you put the border on the bottom and use a walking foot.

I glue baste my borders starting at each end and meeting in the middle. I ease as I go.
