Not sure, but it looks to me as if there is a bobbin case in the third picture. The cover of that area is missing, at least from the photograph. What makes you think the bobbin thread uses a spool?
I have the bobbin cover and was told by ladies at the charity's quilt shop (where I bought it) that it's a double spool machine.
