Love your quilt and the colors. Not to sure about border it takes away from the quilt. Maybe you could use it for the back. Put something softer for border.
The only reason you think it takes away from the rest of the quilt is because there is so much of it in the same spot. Spread it around in smaller doses and you may like it a lot.
