I would want a replacement. The store should have the insurance to cover the cost of a bad machine at their end. You shouldn't have to be responsible. As long as it is under warranty give it one more chance, if not fixed, get it replaced and I would also contact my credit card company ( if that is how you paid) to stop payment if not remedied.
Also contact the Bernina Headquarters about the problem.
