I think it made more sense when you don't have an Oliso iron and you can put it up on that taller part. But being the age that I am, lifting heavy stuff is a thing of the past. I took the top off, (made a shelf out of that) and replaced it with an out door plywood covered with batting and then the silver grey quilting insulating fabric. The drawers are just more STASH.
