I use flannel a lot for quilt backing. I use the flannel that is a bit thicker than pj/shirt flannel. I've had good luck finding it at Marshall Dry Goods. Wears like iron and washes beautifully. I do prewash before using it so that I can shrink it. Sometimes JoAnns will have it but not always.

I made a full quilt out of the heavier flannel 12 years ago and still using it! It gets washed about every 2 to 3 weeks and it still in good shape.
