When in high school, my daughter made lap quilts for her friends to take with them to competitions. She used flannel for the backing and another layer of flannel as the batting. It made them small enough to roll up into a backpack and yet warm enough for sitting in the stadium (we live in california so it never gets real cold). The throws went with most of the kids off to college and have held up well - and we know they have been used, abused and not laundered carefully!

I have used both Moda and Henry Glass Flannel for backings. Bow still in excellent shape despite many washings.
