At least you gave it a go. I never found it to be much work, the automatic washing machine did all the dirty work, after the fact... LOL, and I simply kept everything in order and running smoothly. Two to three loads per week... line-drying... folding... clean fresh diapers for another few days. Will admit I loved always having a supply of diapers on-hand in my home. Also remember putting my kids old cloth diapers to use a few times when company stayed with us who had little ones.
