I used rubber/vinyl pants too and bleached them too and my babies still had diaper rash. Had to use zinc ointment for a long time. I'm from a big family and my mother never had rubber pants and there was no diaper rash either.
Well, one thing is for sure, babies got checked and changed more when rubber pants weren't used, hence the low incidence of diaper rash I'm thinking. Even though I used rubber pants fulltime, I still made a point of checking diapers regularly. Remember the drill? Sticking a finger inside one of the elastic-openings around the legs or down the waistband to feel for a wet diaper?
