Make sure the diaper pants are 100% waterproof. Leaky diapers at the start will turn you off using cloth. Also, I always liked using the old-fashioned pull-on style diaper pants. They were the quickest and easiest to use, so definitely consider buying some of those, too.
Yes, the savings will be exponential. Just think of all the other great things you'll be able to do with the savings!
