yes, never cut lots first. I did that with side triangles but forgot i was adding sashings to an on point setting.
I am at the moment cutting more six inch hexagons and savings scraps from those. I want to cut 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 squares and maybe small rectangles too out of scraps. Then i like you, will try to find a pattern to use them in. i think we may need to just put on our thinking caps and come up with one. I do like the photo you added. Very nice.
