My grandmother was a very practical woman - if something didn't work you got it fixed. She found some crocheted bedspreads that were twin size - she gave them to me because of my daughters and she knew I could do the work to repair the one that was damaged.
Not knowing your family I can't say for sure, but unless your cupboards need useless fillers - my vote it: Make it so you want to use it.
