I think straight line quilting is pretty hard to do so I generally doing a serpentine stitch. It is very forgiving and covers a lot of the wiggles and squiggles. Plus it's a nice design element.
These are my thoughts. If you do straight line thru the corners of blocks, and you miss the corner it shows.The serpentine stitch is very forgiving and if you miss the corner it is because you are in a curve.
