She might want to investigate sewing classes first. Many community education programs have sewing classes and fabric stores also have beginner classes I think. Guilds might be able to help but probably are more prepared to help those who know how to sew before they teach quilting.
Also, can she visit you for a beginning sewing class to see if she even likes it?
