I think you're right and that the blog poster got the date wrong. I just found the exact original quilt by Judy Mathieson on her website quilt gallery here:
http://www.judymathieson.com/Judy_Ma...ge_Quilts.html . It's called Bristol Stars and dated 1999. It does include the geese circles in the corners too. Maybe she wanted photos of it confined largely to her own publications and website.
Looks like she included directions for the center in her book, but omitted directions for the corner circles.
