I was just looking at the photos I've saved of people's progress on the mystery, and I found what I think is the best version I've seen. Unfortunately, I can't share it because I didn't save a link. This person used a very dark green as her blue. Because her 'blue' and brown are the same value, she did not make a clue 4. Her clue six is an HST with her orange and dark green (her blue). For her sashing, she used a lighter green (her blue), rather than the orange.

The result of these changes is that her quilt sparkles at a distance; it's the only version I've seen that's close to Bonniie's but doesn't dissolve into mush in the long view. I think the crucial aspects are the very dark 9-patch, the sashing being a different color from the coral, but lighter, and the simplification of the clue 6, which gives the block more clarity.
