As long as you understand the concept AND practice of paper piecing ( piecing orders mostly) I find it pretty easy to make the patterns. You need to be mindful of where you need seam allowance and that the point matching needs to be at the stitch line not at the paper edge. And that it will be reverse of your drawing, if the pattern is geometric and same on both sides it won't matter, but could if making a pattern that is a picture. I would strongly suggest starting w/ geometric pattern making before moving on the picture pattern making.
