For the Box of Strings I have lots of 5 inch long strips plus bags of longer strings so may size my triangle for this quilt for the 5 inch length - math mind is foggy today so can't figure if the 5 inch will be too short for your size triangle. Paper piece one block to test. You don’t need to paper piece the balance if you don’t wish. But all my calculations (and my gut) says 5” is too short. Depending on the width, it might be quite a bit too short.
Try testing a 3.5 x 7 funished size and 3.75 x 7.5 finished size.
