I love your pillow cover. When I tried the color crayon technique in a class, we found we could get darker more vivid colors by ironing out the crayon the first time, and then coloring the same places a second time, and ironing again. This might be what you are looking for to brighten your colors? (You can even do your coloring in layers to get highlighting colors too)
