Default Fall has finally occurred here. Time for Apple Crisp

This is a recipe my grandmother, (a Texas lady) made every year for the first day of school. Grandma is gone now, and no kids in school, so I make it once a year for the return of fall.

Apple Crisp-

As many of your apples peeled and cut, as it takes to fill a 9”x12” pan 2/3rds full. Sprinkle a goodly amount (1/2 t.?) of cinnamon and nutmeg on the apples and mix. Put 3 T. Cornstarch over the apples and stir in.

In a separate mixing bowl combine-
1 1/2c. Brown sugar
1c flour
2/3 cups butter (margarine does not taste very good in this too much water content)
1 1/2 t. Cinnamon
1 1/2 t. Nutmeg
I cup of “Zoom” hot cereal (like oatmeal, but rolled wheat)
Blend together until it looks like coarse cornmeal. Hand sprinkle the topping over the apples
Bake at 375 for 40 minutes

Top with butter pecan or vanilla ice cream.

Mmmmmmmm! Nothing better in the fall.
