The jelly roll rug holds up the same as a quilt if you use quality fabric and quality batting. I have a rug made from Robert Kauffman fabric and Quilter's Dream batting that is years old and washed many many times. Still looks great. You have to have the fabric strips relax when turning or you will have a bowl effect.
