Check out Bonnie Hunter's smoky mountain stars. It uses mens shirts with plain blocks in between. I am planning on using it to make a quilt from my husbands shirts. He has been gone 5 years and I feel like I am finally up to doing this. Good luck with those quilts it is very nice of you to do that.
