Sergers are great for certain quilts. I made "mini" rail fence quilts (aka placemats) from Kaye Wood's site: http://www.kayewood.com/downloads/ra..._placemats.pdf Serging the strips together and then using decorative thread to "bind" the edges was easy and used up some stash. She also has a quilt-as-you-go pattern that has instructions for using a serger.
