This is why I love my machines with the knee pedals. That being said, here is a picture of 2 of my pedal "hacks." The one on the left is screwed to the wood with sheetrock screws and the one on the right is attached to a mouse pad with brads- those paper fasteners where you bend the wings over.

I did something similar. I left the shipping boards that were attached to the base of my machine cabinet attached. My foot pedal fits between them so there is no slippage.
