While the beds and hinge spacing are the same for the 28/128 and 99, the 99 will not fit in a 28/128 base if that is the original base. The 28 or 128 will fit in an original 99 case. I'm thinking that a modern case is deeper and would take either.
Friar_Tuck is correct the depth of the case is different. The 99 being the taller one and the 128 is shorter.
I was thinking someone recently had a case that had a hole cut out of the base so the machine would fit. I don't remember who or what machine. I found it --
You gotta love home modifications! it was Friar_Tuck's 185 which is a modernized 99.
