I would think that the position of & type of bobbin that the slot would be so you can put the bobbin thread through it before closing the slide so you will have enough thread and it won't get caught in the slide.
That is a nice top.
I also think it is neat that they have directions on the machine about the position of the take-up lever is to be in.
