I kind of fit at both ends of this. Most of my quilts are sort of scrappy, controlled scrappy. My quilt may be 3 colors, but I use 50 different fabrics, all shades of those colors. I love the look. But, I have never done a "real" scrappy quilt, all colors, shades, pick out of the bag type, because, I like many truely scrappy quilts, but, not all. Some just don't work, IMHO. You might try doing a "controlled scrappy" as a start, then work up to truely scrappy, someday I might also!! I have noticed that the ones that I like, tend to have a lot of white, or cream, to make all the other colors work together.
