Evidently, there were some changes in the thread guides for the 237. The earlier 237 had a bobbin tension about mid-arm and not connected with the thread guide above the tension assembly. The later ones, probably more plentiful, had the bobbin tension with the thread guide. I found the instruction manuals indicating the differences in the position at
https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/in...inger-237.aspx and
https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/in...hion-mate.aspx I believe one of my 237 had the tension guide broken, too. I haven't done anything about it though. I was thinking of forming some sort of wire to make one.
I have a Brother that I got out the other day, which had a broken guide. It was shaped a little differently. It was like a slotted piece of metal. I simply laid the thread on top of it. It worked fine for what I was doing. I wasn't sewing a quilt or trying to sew fast.
Ebay or bonanza may have one, but not right now that I could find. Here are some links to pictures of the part with the bobbin winder tension upper thread guide.
We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a
