I am butting in on this thread but I am just learning to applique and your response of Crosshatching brought a question to my mind. Would you crosshatch the background square first and then attach applique over the crosshatching? or attach the applique and then crosshatch around the applique? I think my first idea would be the easiest, but I am an applique and a crosshatching rookie both. TIA
