I have seen the surgeon as well as talked with another doctor...the surgeon wants to do a "guided" injection of cortisone (by ultrasound to get it placed where things are flared up). I am not thrilled with the idea of a 3rd injection in as many months since the first two made the pain terrible (unable to use my hand for the first 5 days) and then the pain wasn't any better after that, if anything after the 2nd it seemed worse.

I was having my elbow checked out for scar tissue by another doctor through ultrasound and I mentioned my thumb so he did an ultrasound on that too an said it is arthritis of the CMC joint (base of my thumb) and he thinks I would be a better candidate for laser therapy than an injection. Insurance doesn't cover that and no guarantee it will work or how long it will last...

So today I called the office I found with a Hand Therapy Specialist listed...I talked to the therapist quite some time and she has some ideas she thinks will help...so I go next Thursday for my first appt. She works with the doctor who recommended the laser treatments so he was good to give me a referral so insurance will be happy too!
