I do this all the time. Usually because I discover that the block is not turned correctly in the quilt. If you rip out about a 2 inch extra length along each seam when taking out the original block, then sew the block back in the reverse sequence to which you took it out, there won't have to be any hand sewing. It will all be about partial seams.
