Good luck in school, I have found that it is much harder now than when I was younger (but I am enjoying it much more). I don't seem to be able to concentrate or retain info as easily as I used to. I worked hard my first semester but I achieved a 4.0 average and made the dean's list - top 6% of the class!
Good for you, and congratulations on that 4.0!
I agree, it's wise and helpful to review the basics first. Without that, you'll only struggle in algebra.
Now, as for concentration, were you really more focused as a teen? Really? And retaining things, it may seem more effortful because you've forgotten that schoolkids usually need to read the material several times, do homework to practice what they've learned and then quiz themselves. Most of us never learned something fully in one sitting. And college is different, because you don't have nightly homework, which rehearses the knowledge.
