run run as fast as you can I could never understand that X thing and why it was there what was its purpose and I even had a tutor useless my brain just could not work its way around the numbers but I could paint anything you wanted me tooo

Oh wow Algebra. I was never very good at it until I found a great way for me to learn it. I had to work out a problem with a teacher, step by step. (I'm very visual) I also usually end up talking myself through my problems which has always helped me, making sure I don't miss a step.
Find the way the learn and try it that way. Good luck!

I was a terrible math student in school. Then I married a high school math teacher. I ended up going back to college with a major in, you guessed it, math! I became a middle school math teacher and taught Algebra for 20 years! I'm telling you this because I believe anyone can be good at
math - it just takes some maturity and a great teacher or tutor. Good luck to you! Your efforts will be rewarded!

I had to learn from going to the specific to the general in learning algebraic concepts.

Example:

I knew/know that some number plus another number equals a third number:

5+ 3 = 9

a + b = c

I went back to our local community college about 15 years ago. I absolutely LOVED going.

I asked if I could attend the "remedial" classes so that when I was tutoring I would use the same terms and methods that my tutees were learning.

I learned (or finally understood!) so much from going to those classes!

My husband does! He has twenty years experience teaching Math. If you need help, send me a PM. I used to work in the Academic Support Lab at our local community college. When students needed help with Math, I knew who to call.
